OFF THE MAT

Victims Assistance Services (VAS), in collaboration with Westchester Martial Arts Academy and Eastchester Communities that Care, PRESENTS the "Off the Mat" Series. A Five-Part Character Education Program.

Workshop Information
Black Belt Leaders: 3:45 to 4:30pm
5 - 6 yr. olds: 4:30 to 5pm
7 - 10 yr. olds: 5 to 5:45pm (subject to change)

10/12/07 - Introduction

  • An introduction to the facilitator and the program, as well as a chance to get to know members of the group.
  • 12/7/07 - Communication: What are you saying?

  • Defines the different types of communication and explores how to communicate effectively through role-plays and activities.
  • 1/18/08 - Conflict Resolution

  • Defines conflict resolution and uses role-plays to explain how to effectively negotiate conflict with others.
  • 11/16/07 - Bullying: Learning Respect and Responsibility

  • Defines bullying, outlines why bullies bully, how a person who is bullied feels, and explains what to do if students are victims of bullying or if they witness another child being bullied.
  • 2/8/08 - Self-Esteem: Liking Who You Are

  • Defines self-esteem and explores how to increase self-esteem through interactive exercises.
  • TBA - Wrap-up and Awards Ceremony

  • Certificates and Leadership patches will be given to those who attend all five sessions of the program. Parents and other family are welcome to attend.
